I'd say probably Dove! Dove season opens September 1st here in Oklahoma and many other states. Wished I knew where to go. In my neck of the woods there are no grain fields to attract doves. Nothing but ranchland or trees. There are a few dove sitting around on highline wires, but hardly worth the effort.

Deer. Bow season. Opens for elk this month too. I hunted for deer during firearm season last year. Never again. Not here in WA anyway. Too many drunken idiots in the woods with guns. It's also bear and cougar season too.

Dove season here tomorrow too. No season for hogs, anytime, anyplace. Deer won't be until Nov.
Haven't seen many dove around here either. Once the finger of the hill south of me had clearing on top and mesquite all around. Dove from all over came in there to roost. You could almost melt down a shotgun barrel. NOw it is all high dollar houses along there. May have some come in under the hill, got a bit of water and mesquite around it now.

Will have to see about it for sure.

Dove season. When I woke up this morning it sounded like a small war had broke out.
Now it is over until this evening.

went out this morning, slept in ya know, small war going on to the west of the house. NOthing around the house, not even a mockingbird. Called a buddy, he was out hunting, said the war was on on the other side of the county too, he had seen one small songbird. A couple of crows showed up here about that time.
I haven't seen many birds of anykind around the house in several weeks. Road runner came by and looked at me couple days ago while i sat on the back -porch.

When I was a kid, there was lots of quail in this country, don't remember the last time I saw or heard a Bob White. Has to be 15 years since I have flushed a covey on this place.

Couple of years ago I was on my way home from work. Along side of the highway was a dove field. I stopped for a few minutes to watch the hunters. Must have been about 50-60 hunters there. A bird flew across the field from the south. Hunters starter shooting. The bird kept flying. Some hunters emptied their guns on the bird. Never disturbed a feather and the bird never swerved. It left the north end of the field. It was a blue jay.

That was funny pancho. Reminded me of a particular time when I was in my teens. I would shoot just about anything. I saw this bird on a tree limb, full of green leaves everywhere. I had a shotgun and decided to shoot it. I took aim and squeezed the trigger. All around the bird was not one tree leaf left, but the bird was still setting on the tree limb unharmed.

One lucky bird!!!!
