Turtle lines

Well I got permission to drop a few lines for snapping turtles in a ditch. No luck yet with the snappers but those little painted turtles are stealing my bait every day. I'm using a big #4 hook and they have always held big ones for me in the past.
Nothing I can do about the painted turtles taking the bait but just wondering if anyone has ever used one of those turtle traps they sale? If so do they work ok?

I have never trapped turtle but I have seen homemade traps where they crawl over the top on a board and can't get out. Then you could trap a bunch and pick out the snappers, maybe leave the painted turtles in there while you trap the snappers on the hooks too...

Never had a problem with the painters. Sometimes I'd have catfish on the line instead of snappers, but thats not really a problem, we just ate catfish instead

Its so darn dry everywhere you might catch anything now days.
