Rock, I belonged to a bass club years ago and did a lot of fishing and I found when the fish did not bite, I would go to a lighter rig, line, bait and reel and would catch more fish. But I have been of the opinion, the bigger the bait, the bigger the fish!

Talking

Depending on the fishing I am looking to catch and the area. Pan fish in light weeds I use 2 to 6 pound test. Bass, pike and waleyes in slightly weedy areas 6 to 10 pound test. In heavy lilly paded areas I use the higer test options for the fish I'm hopeing to catch. the beaver pont I use 10 to 15 pound test. Lots of limbs sunk in the mud and plenty of lily pads in most areas.
