quick question

My dad just got an 8 point but when we got to him he had been shot before. My dad shot at what he thinks is this deer 2 weeks ago but thought he missed him. The "old" wound is on his back and it was yucky looking lots of puss. The deer had gone down a good bit as he was not healthy looking at all, head was drawn and thin. My dad and I think this meat would not be safe to eat--what would you do?

The areas around the infected area are definitely inedible. If the old wound is on his back, that probably takes eating the backstraps a bad idea. Other meat on the deer ought to be ok but a quick inspection after skinning should tell you all you need to know.

I hate to waste meat but I agree.

I cut up one for a guy once and I found an old arrowhead. No puss but really sick looking meat. I told him to throw it out.
