Very proud mama!

Well I am a very proud mama today! My 12 yr. and 8 yr. old sons went out with their pellet/bb guns this afternoon. They were out for about 2 hours and came home with a nice sized red squirrel and 2 rabbits. I offered to help them clean them, but they wanted to do it themselves. (They did a really nice job!) Anyway- I had to brag a little!(Guess what we are having for supper tonight!!)

prairiecomforts, please tell them I am proud of them for you! It's pleasing to hear when kids 'do' for themselves.
tell me how they taste-- used to raise domestic rabs, so I know how pellet fed rabs taste. Never had squirrel either
What great kids!

Awesome!

I was at a flea market yesterday and a lady came in asking if anyone had a small table or plaque of some kind to have a squirrel mounted on. Her 10 year old son had shot his first squirrel and she's gonna have it mounted and needed something to place it on. She was very proud of her son as she was smiling from ear to ear and had to tell everyone about it.

Was the flea market at Locust Grove? If so, is it any good? Havn't been there in some time. I like to collect old things. Some call them antiques, but old things.

Supper was very good tonight! We have had rabbit several times before - ones that we have raised and ones the boys have shot but had never tried squirrel before. I just quartered it, breaded it and then fried it. Let it simmer for about an hour on low with a little water in the pan. It was really good. The kids all liked it. The boys want to go out tomorrow again - so after they are done with their school work, I will take them out. Guess I better start looking for some new recipes!

Prairiecomforts, you all should be proud. I had a neighbor once who used red squirrel to make biscuits and gravy. I left the table in pain.I was just glad she didn't make a BIG batch.

that is soooo great

However you got to that point with those boys, you should keep giving them all the encouragement you can. That was a good job, and I'd be really proud to have any of my kids or grandkids do that at their ages. Well Done !!
