Hey Braggscowboy!

Do you trout fish down at Gore, Ok.? If so, when's the best time to go? Which side of the river has the better access?

I don't fish for trout, but my grandson does. I have some for the stripers. We, GS and I go up just below the dam and park at the spillway and and fish for the stripers. Must have TL to fish for whatever I think. Right there at the spillway there is a parking lot and just on the west side (or seems to be more west than south) behind the large hill there is a road that one can walk down for about 100-150 yards and he and a lot of people catch a lot of trout there. Many people go to the Marvel trout farm there for access and catch fish. I think that a lot of people check with the ODW to see when there are releases. The times that we fished as in May and June, but I think it is good about anytime.

I used to work at the power plant.
I would spend part of my shift on the tail race watching people fish.
Most fished for catfish and stripers.
Quite a bit of snagging goes on at night.

Most of the trout fishing was when the trucks stocked them.

Yes, that is pretty much right. I did not do any snagging, probably not legal there?

Not legal at all.
Game warden would sometimes use our cameras to catch snaggers.

Pretty sure one could not, but I do below FG sometimes, not snag, but fish for sandbass and stripers and sometimes snag a spoon with a jig and I try to jerk it off the line. Sometimes Get in close and break line or cut. Don't want to catch one. Sure have had some big ones on and they will take about all the line and break a 30# test line pretty easy. They get really big sometimes. Sure a prehistoric fish!

I watched a man hook into one near the powerplant. It started going down river. The bank was lined with fisherman. One man ran in front of the hooked fish cutting all of the fishing lines belonging to people in the way. They went out of sight with the fish still on.

The game ranger told us he could fine anyone for snagging that jerked three times in a row.

Do they not allow snagging down there due to the strippers or the trout?

No snagging at all that I know of. I don't think there is enough room to do that anyway below the spillway. Fort Gibson is a good place to snag if you like doing that. Some good ones and good stripers there sometimes. Lots of good sandbass when the turbines are going from time to time.

Well I was just asking the reason why it wasn't, I'm not a spoonbill person myself. In fact, I kind of get fed up with snaggers sometimes. Been several instances where my family and I are fishing for sandbass when all of a sudden a snagger or two move in next to us and start throwing there big lines across our pathway. And then if they get a spoonbill on they will cut across in front of us to retrieve their big fish. Some of them have no respect whatsoever for other fishermen. Sometimes I'd like to just reach out in front of me and cut their line. I bet the fight would be on then!

Yep, know what you mean, but not really that bad with snaggers at FGD, but catfish fishermen it can be pretty bad. They "jockey" to see who can get the closest to the dam and the turbines. They catch a lot of good fish on the shad.
