Bad year for N AL?

Was hoping I had some venison lined up, 3 different hunters said they'd call so I could get any extra deer they got so I could have some. I would process the meat myself. Not a word from any of them Just wondering if it's been that bad a year in north AL? I just don't think I could get one for myself at this stage of life (woman over 50), or let's say I don't know the rules well enough not to get shot and cannot afford classes right now.

Can you get put on a list for fresh roadkilled deer? We have that in MN. You call the sheriff's office.

Unfortunately they won't allow that here or so I was told.

ETA Went looking and see where some people say it's legal now but cannot find any links. Maybe I'll try asking a county over and see what they say...

Carol, go over to ALdeer.com, register and post to see if anyone there can/will help you out. Deer numbers have been down in my section of TN according to my observations. I think the coyotes are hammering the fawns at fawning time and this is grinding the numbers down. Good luck-I think someone will help you out at aldeer. TTT

If you are not required to take a hunter saftey class all you need is a place to hunt some type of device to dispatch a deer and hunter orange clothing/vest to stay with in the laws there and a place to hunt.
I'm 65 and still hunt alone now I might add the 4th year.

Well, I'm only 51, old enough I'm "grandmothered" in without a class, but have a sneaking suspicion my shoulder wouldn't forgive me for years if I shot something with enough kick for bagging a deer LOL Also, the place to hunt would be my problem. Population is finally getting up around here but I was in my late 30s before I ever even saw a deer around here.

Not much recoil to be had with a 243cal or any other 6mm 6.5 mm rifle for that matter.

Carol, call around to the deer processing plants in your area and tell them you'd like to get some venison. Leave your phone number with them. They may have unclaimed venison or may run into some before the season is out. Plus they are good contacts to tell some hunters that you'd appreciate some venison if they get an opportunity to take one. You still have a lot of time as the season is in until the end of January.
