Fished all night last night.....

...and didn't catch a darn thing!

A friend and I went catfishing last night. We set out several limb lines using catfish doughballs, live perch, live minnows, dead minows, and while we was waiting to check them we would do some pole fishing off the bank. I only got a few small bites on my pole but never hooked anything. Same with my friend. We checked the limblines once again before we crashed out on the bank, which was about 1:30 a.m. and just about everyone of our hooks would be empty of bait and no fish. Got up this morning and checked the limblines and nothing but empty hooks. No bait, no fish!

Talked to some guys who were bank fishing a little ways down the gravel bar from us and they wasn't having any luck either. But to rub it in our faces, they said "Should have been here last night, we we're slaying them."

That's how my luck goes. Always a day late!

Try using "circle hooks"

They set themselves

Really I don't think the hook was the problem. I think raccoons, turtles, and snakes were the bait steelers. Everytime we found a empty hook there was no signs of major water splashing from a hooked fish. We weren't even getting bites while setting on the bank using rod and reels.

I suspect that you may have gars in your river? If so, they are the best bait stealers in the Mississippi River system.

Yes, I forgot to mention them. We were setting our lines in and around some huge brush piles on the river edge and we also noticed several gars swimming around. So I would have to agree with you Martin.

Were suppose to go back there this next weekend for a 3 day campout. So hopefully we'll catch us a few one way or another.

We used a canoe to set out the limblines. I wished I had my little flatbottom fixed. I would like to just tie up ahead of the brushpile and fish out of the boat. I can't set in the canoe very long, it causes my back to hurt too much. Probably cause the partner setting in the front wont set still and keeps me all tensed up. Thinking we're going to turn over at anytime.
