SAvage range day

Savage arms are sending two representatives to our gun club today. They are bringing 8 different rifles and 300 to 400 rounds of ammo for each gun for us to play with. Anyone ever been to one of these? It sounds like a good time.

Many years ago I was in a gun club and we had a Benelli day. I would much rather come to your Savage day and shoot rifles than shoot various shotguns all day.

Hey wait, in the 80s we had a Weatherby day, too. They had everything from 224 up to 378 and 460 to shoot, and I remember they had a bunch of 22 semiautos to shoot at a big rack of cheap soda pop cans. The kids loved that.

Our IDPA Club range has had S&W and HK Days so far, mostly geared towards handguns. They combined with a potluck and hotdogs etc. We usually set up a match stage besides the demo to try and get folks interested in joining the club. Both have been a great time.

OK, the day is done. The good things: The rifles were assume. The model 110 BA in both .308 and .338 Lapua were great. I was surprised on the low amount of recoil on a big stick like the .338. The model 16 BH in .300 win mag. and the model 11LH in 6.5mm creedmoor are my new dream guns. The bad things: most of the scopes (Nikon) were only badly bore sighted at best. Guns that should have castrated a fly at 200 yds. couldn't even hit paper at 100 yds. I was expecting some incredible accuracy that I know Savage can produce. Unfortunately more then half the guns were throwing lead to who knows where. The model 11 Lh really impressed me. The scope on this was not well tuned. But holding the same point of aim this thing made touching holes at 200 yds. Can't ask for better then that. Overall a good day.

That is inexcusable to have the rifles not sighted in. Were these guys trying to sell rifles or what? Anyway, glad you had a good time and got some free ammo.

i have often thought if a fella wanted to sell some rifles he would have a range day , he would make sure the rifles were perfectly paired to scopes and the ammo was perfect
he would let you shoot his rifles , but buy his ammo divided into 5 round bags. he would have sand bags plenty of paper down range and have each rifle shooting ragged holes.

so that if they didn't shoot well it was all operator error , that way if a guy sees the guy in front of him shoot a ragged hole , and he doesn't at least he knows it's him

and a guy to fill out paper work so you could take home the rifle you shot ready to go after the necessary paper work.

my dad and I went to a smith and Wesson day at the indoor range , range time targets were free , you had to buy the ranges ammo divided into bags 6 rounds for revolver ammo 10 rounds for auto ammo at the time it was a dollar basically to try a gun you paid for your ammo and handed them your drivers license to take a gun to the range
