I'm getting excited!

Fifteen more days and squirrel season opens back up. I've got two squirrel treeing dogs that I can't wait to take out and kill a few squirrels with. The first dog is a little male Jack Russell that just loves to tree squirrels and I've been using him to train a female Bluetick hound with. She's been treeing her own squirrels here lately but I haven't shot any out of the tree's for her since it's not squirrel season yet.

I just can't wait! 15 more days! I just can't wait!

Country boy, I would rather squirrel hunt that eat at one time. Liked the dog, but also loved to still hunt. Seems to be a lot of squirrels right now. I see them cutting buds and seeds. Really after the maple seeds right now. When I go up the road by a house that has maples I see a couple out there in the yard eating seeds. See a lot around the house here right now. They like the elm and about any other seeds they can find. Do you have the fox or grey's where you hunt? Good luck and watch for the copperheads! I am not too far from you. Down by Tenkiller and Greenleaf.

You folks are lucky. Ours don't start until Oct. Hunting tree rats is fun.

braggscowboy, I'm just north of you up in the lower end of Delaware county. Up highway 10. Yep I do a lot of careful foot stepping when hunting in spring/summer. A lot of times I wait till a rainny day. Seems to keep the snakes and ticks at bay. Still have to be careful tho.

BigRock, the little jack has wisened up quit a bit and is careful to watch for the squirrels to jump from tree to tree. If he doesen't see it move off the tree, he'll set there for a long time looking for it. If he can still see it he'll set there for hours barking at it. The hound dog, trees more from scent. So I don't know just how she's gonna do yet with a lot of green leaves on. Hopefully both dogs paired up together they'll make a great team.

If I get this bluetick hound to treeing purty good, I'd like to sell her and use the money to buy a couple more JackRussells. I can feed about 3 JR on the feed that one Bluetick will feed on.

I've also got two redbone pups to start trainning. They are about 6 - 7 months old and have not been introduced to hunting yet. Hope they will catch on purty fast so I can sell them. It's costing me a fortune for dog feed.

I've noticed with my JR he will hear a Squirrel at a distance lots of times before he sees them. But things in the ground he will use his Nose like Snakes and Rats gets tiring trying to get him away from it.

Yep thats how my JR is. He has very keen hearing with those ears standing erect and aint afraid to dive into any hole. I usually have to drag him away and start over in another area. darn good home protection also. Ain't scared of any strangers either. And minds real well too. Has had very little trainning but he seems to want to make me proud of him. He'll look at me like he understands every word I tell him. Remarkable dog. I'm gonna start trainning him to road hunt. Legal if you don't get caught!
