Gotta get me a deer!!
My husband had all the luck this year! I got a call at 8am opening day, just barely after shooting light saying he was already gutting his deer. I asked him what he got, he said a two point. I said "WHAT? You said you weren't going to shoot anything small!" He said, "I didn't....."
27 inch two point that's incredibly heavy! He was at least 5 years old! The only reason a two point managed to get that big is because for years you had to shoot 3 point or better. They just opened up two points last year here!
So he's cut and wrapped in the freezer, but it's not nearly as full as i'd like it to be! My husband had to go back to work in MT Saturday, and there's no way i can pack out a deer on my own, especially being 3 months pregnant. Thankfully, we have an awesome Pastor at church that is scouting out a buck for me Wednesday and hopefully putting me on it Thursday! CANT WAIT!!!!!

um might just be me but that would be a four point here and a big one to boot.
actual two point would be a spike.
you guys just count the points on one side? or is that a muley thing ?

LOL! You guys just count 'em wrong! On this side of the country, we just count one side. We dont like to exaggerate! LOL! I dont know how often it happens in whitetail, but we get a lot of non typicals that dont have the same number of points on both sides, so, for example, it's not uncommon to get a 3 x 4 buck.

in white tail we count all the points and if it is a odd number you know it was atipical
my first buck was a 9 point the 10th is actualy there but not over the length to make it count as a point
atipical is maybe 30-40% of bucks over a fork from what i have seen here in wisconsin

It's a western thing to count only one side Plus for whitetails they don't count the brow tine either...
When PA instituted antler restrictions they made it 4 on one side in the Allegheny Mtn area and 3/side in the rest of the state including the brow tine & established a 1' minimum length thereby trashing the old 'tradition' that it counted as a point if you could hang your wedding ring on it!

I always figured why you Westerners didn't total the points up to a final figure is cause you all can't count very high. My guess is you all's edecationel sistem ain't much out that way.
We can all count up to 10 on our fingers, except aunt Bessie who cuts chicken up in the local chicken plant. She's lost 2 fingers on one hand and 1 finger on the other, so she can only count up to 7 now.

I'm rolling over here, funny.
ok I never did any elk hunting so they must be the same way they figure them guys too?
wiz bang we have simular restrictions here part of the whole hymogonized nation thing or the whole school of conformity, thinking all the law and biologist types spawn from, I belive a lot of our game laws are very simular to NY's actually almost identical.
we have a combo tag here you can use either or both for a doe/s or a anterless (shooting buttons is frowned upon but does happen) in archery or one is unrestricted kinda has to be a spike 3" or longer and the other has to be 4 points on one side or better and I think its a 1" per point also. I'm not sure what the other tags will get you, theres seasonal archery or seasonal gun but I think you can only get one or the other. then you got doe tags for private or public but not both and special doe permits in certain areas.
they started a thing last year instead of a private land doe tag limited to county you could get them per zone, we have three and they where good in any area except state land in that zone. combo is good anywhere except does on state land.

PA has an statewide 'antlered' tag w/ the regular license along w/ spring gobbler and fall turkey tags. They just started allowing the purchase of a second spring gobbler tag.
Anterless tags are WMU specific and sold via lottery so the popular WMUs sell out in the first round & most age gone by the second round 'cept the urban WMUs around Phila & Pittsburgh where they allow so many that they sell them over the counter after the three round lottery.
During Archery [extra license] they allow muzzleloader [extra license] to hunt anterless w/ a WMU anterless license and allow any kind of muzzleloader.
Then there is bear [extra license] just b/4 thanksgiving followed by rifle season for two weeks. There used to be a separate doe season but it is now inclusive. There is also property specific DMAP anterless tags.
After Christmas there is a flintlock season where a unused buck tag can also be used statewide for a doe. Archery re-opens at the same time either buck or WMU specific doe.
Those two urban areas also have an extended anterless season after Christmas where you can use shotgun or muzzleloader. The two urban areas [3 WMUs] are mostly shotgun even though it has been documented that a slug will rebound and fly further than a rifle...
With the antler restrictions it is a far cry from my younger days when you got one tag on your regular license good only for a buck unless you got a doe permit. In those days a successful archer was done and everyone only got one deer 'cept for the poachers...
