Cheap shallow running floating lures?

I usually rig my kids (4 and 7) up with jigs and grubs because they get hung a lot and I don't care to lose a $5 Rapala every time they cast into a tree. The jigs work well and they catch fish off of them, but I am thinking that something that floats may be good for trolling because it won't sink everytime we slow down. We are usually on bass water. Any ideas?

Have you tried using a adjustable slip floater several feet above the lure. That's what we use to do. Have it about 5 or 6 feet above the jig, spoon, sassy shad, etc. and slowly troll along. If we caught one on a pole, we would quit trolling and real it in while the other poles were still out. Then continue on.
