Wow, what a let down!

After last weekends fishing trip I couldn't hardly wait till this Saturday and go again. All in hopes of catching lots of fish. But I get out there in the river in my little bellyboat and realize the fish aren't biting so well. Then I realize the wind is coming from the East. You know the old saying "Wind out of the East, fish bite the least"!

Last weekend I only went about a 100 yards in my bellyboat before my reel messed up and had to quit. But yet I still caught about 7 or 8 nice size bream and 2 nice looking crappie in that short lenght of fishing. So today, I went back to the same spot and ended up floating about 2 miles downstream and only came home with 5 little perches (bream). And on top of all that, I lost my favorite crankbait to what I think was either a gar or flathead catfish. It bite my crankbait and I jerked. It jerked back real hard and my pole immediately double over and "Pow". Sounded like a little cap gun going off. I started hollering "NO, NO" "That's my favorite crankbait" It was a brown crawdad with a orange belly. Only one in my tackle box.

Oh well, maybe next Saturday I'll have better luck and a new crawdad.(maybe 2)

Bout bet it was a big flattie or a white perch(drum). Sorry for the bad luck, Ive had good success in the past with crawdad crankbaits too.

I have fished the same little crawdad bait all summer on an ultalight rig in the rivers and the lakes around here. Probably caught 300+ fish on it, all from my inflatable kayak or wading. Fishing in the lake last week I bounced it off a rock bluff and started reeling it in. Halfway to the boat my rod doubled up. Thirty minutes later I managed to get the net under the fish. 27lb striper...

Went fishing yesterday and third cast in it started reeling in funny. Pulled it out of the water and all I had reeled in was the lip of the lure.. Guess that striper killed my poor lure.
Went by the shop I buy lures from and bought 4 more of the various color schemes and 2 of the larger ones. So far I have had better luck with this lure than anything else I have ever fished with..

Yep, it's probably the best crankbait out there. Was told just about every kind of fish out there eats crawdads that's why the crawdad crankbait catches so many.

Yep, one of those, a Original Rapala floater, Rapala jointed minnow and a chartruese with black stripes Beetle Spin are a good choice for most tackle box's.

Well now I'm looking forward to next Saturday and try it all over again. Wife just informed me that we are invited to a young boys birthday party and he's having it down on the river in the very same area I've been fishing. So I might just go down early Saturday morning and float my way to his party. Hopefully the fish will be biting good once again.
