Late muzzle loader season in Iowa

Well it started monday and i have three so far. The bucks have already dropped their antlers. This is way early. I like to shoot does for the meat but all im getting are bucks with no antlers. My kids each have tags and I have two more. Plenty of deer but hard to get to do to the deep snow and ice layer that crunches with every step.

Are you planning on filling your kids tags or are they?

Good for yuou on the harvest so far and good luck filling the rest of your tags.

What muzzle loader do you shoot?

I like my T/C renegade and thunderhawks... I have a new to me TC thunderhawk in stainless with a synthetic stock I bought cheap a couple years back I haven't shot yet that I would like to shoot and take this year for our season.

If it shoots anywhere near as good as its blued and walnut brother it will be a great hunter.

I have the thompson center thunderhawk and it is a super accurate gun. My kids will fill thier own tags. i take them out one at a time and its a blast. Nothing better than watching your kids shoot their own deer. And now that they are on Christmas break they are ready to go, but as im looking outside at the ice moving in, it could be a couple days before we get out. Good luck on your hunt.
