marlin .45-70 lever

I saw one of these in the gun shop. what kind of cartridge is this. I've had levers in both 30-30 and .44 mag, although I no longer have either. I was thinking about getting a marlin 336 30-30. How is the 45-70 round different?

.45/70 has been around a long time. Was used by buffalo hunters. A friend of mine bought the Marlin in .45/70, he was very impressed by its accuracy out of that rifle. Especially for a big heavy bullet. It hits like a freight train. Google it up. Theres tons of stuff written on it.

It's the best choice for someone that wants to hunt with lead bullets that they cast themselves. It can be handloaded to magnum power levels with bullets you made yourself right in the garage. Make sure it has a THICK recoil pad on the stock! If it doesn't have one, then put one on.

Im trying to deal with a local guy on a 45/70 marlin lever gun right now. It a very long 45 bullet. Packs quite a punch. Lots of penetration. Does not kick as bad as a 444. Its a good cartridge.

I have a Marlin 1895cb in .45-70 govt.; it's a hoot to shoot and more than a match for any game animal in North America. (I have a Winchester 94 in .444 Marlin as well; I don't even shoot it now that I have the .45-70.)
