Talking Tallow!

What use do you make of the tallow on venison?

I used to put in thse mesh bags that citrus cam in and hang it out for the winter birds to feed on. Havn't seen one of those bags in years.

I made a small basket with hardware cloth to hold the suet/tallow for the birds. It hangs on the post the seed feeder is on.

vt3bw

or 3 parts rendered venison tallow 1 part bees wax

what is it , helps cracked chapped hands and is not slimy or greasy , it is a wood finish, metal presevitive, leather conditioner and protectant . bullet lube . and what ever else you come up with for it

i came up with the idea after seeing a product called bumblin bear grease
then i did some reading and found several bullet lube , patch lube recipies using mutton tallow or venison tallow

well i looked over some old timer recipies people had tried and saw a basic pattern about 3 to 1 so i figured i would give it a try got a little double boiler form good will and you have vt3bw

does it work , works good on chapped nuckles and is not greasy , havn't yet tried it as a bullet lube , looks nice on wood , good for leather

and i guess i kind of give away the recipie in the name , that way i can remember better.

Take a pine cone and work the fat into it and then roll it in bird seeds. Tie a string to it and hang them in a tree.

Hey I like the bullet lube, hand cream idea.
Also the hardware cloth feeder. Would 1/8th work since I have a bunch of scrap stuff from the bottom boards I build with it?

Ya I'm retired some what. I have found so much to do that I often wonder how I ever had time to go to a paying job.
No time to be filling pine come with tallow and rolling them in bird seed thats for sure. A good idea for those with idle hands though.
