question about field dressing a deer...
I was blessed with not one but two small deer today. The first one was shot in the shoulder and I dressed it and processed it without much problem....other than it being the 1st time I'd done the field dressing. The 2nd one however was a totally different story. It was gutshot.....there were intestines hanging out one side and when I hung it up to start on it either stomach or bowel contents started coming out the other side. I ended up just saving the back legs, tenderloin, and backstrap off that one. I just could not clean it out without that stuff getting all over the front part of the deer. I feel like I wasted meat though. Is there a way to dress a deer shot like that to save the meat? I just didn't think we wanted to eat it if there was poop all over the meat. Thanks for any help!
