hazelnuts?

Not sure if this is the right place - the wild hazelnut crop here is very good this year...(northern WI near the UP border).

Does anyone know a timeframe for harvest...the're about 6 miles from my house & I don't get to check very often.

Or what signs I should look for when they are ready? Other than the day before the critters get them?

thanks

You may not get a chance with them that far away. Squirrels seem to have a 6th sense, and get them the day before I'm going to pick mine. And mine are in the front yard!

Chick,

I am also in Northern Wisc, near the UP border! I have watched the same patch of Hazelnuts for 5 years running, checking them daily and every time I think I have it timed right and show up to harvest them the danged squirrels have gotten there an hour or so before me...so this year I have given up!

I hope you have better luck!!

Margie
