bear

Very large - my sil said 400 lbs. - in my yard while I was out on the small screen porch. I thought it was racoons, scraped a tool on the grate of the wire table I was sitting up to and told whatever to go away, then the noise got louder. So I noticed the cats had disappeared and my windows open etc. 10 pm. I turned on the tv in LR and then somehting was hitting the house. Snuck into the little office room in pitch dark and peeked out blind and it was a rather large bear - amost looked like a camel. Called my sil and he came in 15 min with truck and rifle and had to chase the bear twice out of my yard. - threatening with the truck. Bear just looked at him about ten feet into the woods and had no intention of going away. Meanitme, my trash is in the woods, big humongous crows in yard this am and I had to chase them away and pick up what I could, shepherd's hook - big double one - bent to the ground, two bird feeders destroyed, trash cans that have locking lids won't lock anymore. What a mess. This is close to the blue ridge, but there are 180 families here and he picked on me. Calling the wildlife officer tomorrow and complain about the braveness and largess of this bear. I think he is a danger to humans and should be up in the mountains. Ah - the great outdoors...... Sapphira

bear - the rest of the story

It is two bears, one has 2 cubs and one has one cub. Nite before last there was some big shooting at dark up in the Blue Ridge mt. just east of our community. No visits last nite or nite before.
Forest ranger came by yesterday and talked to me and was to talk to other people. He wants us all to change our habits, no cooking outside, no trash outside, no nothing. Yeah right. (My garbage in in 2nd bathroom tub right now.)
For mother's day my son in law put up a motion sensor light out back. Will be a big help to me as I edge on forest and it is pitch black out there. I'm going to plant today anyway though the ranger said the bears would tear it all up. I have a large lot and can do a lot with it. S.

Any reason your SIL did not shoot the bear? I would have dropped the bear on the spot.
