I suggest going to a gun shop or pawn shop and looking around they usually have several they take on trades.

I'd suggest a Marlin 336 over a Winchester. Good used Winchesters are way over priced now.

Hi PairieDog
Look through your local Sunday paper for you local sporting goods stove. The one in our area is called "Big 5" and are selling a Marlin 30-30 for 399$.

You should note though that prices seem to be going up fast. I wanted to buy one a year ago when prices were hovering around 299$. I decided to buy right after Winchester chose to close shop, and Marlin immediately raised the price to 320$. Now, a year later it's 399$. Oh well.

PD
This add is for southern California shoppers only, but it gives you an idea of what a new 336 is going for. At least it's nice to look at the picture.

Those prices are going up. I bought my Marlin 11 years ago at a pawn shop, it was in perfect condition and it came with a scope and mounts, as well as a leather shoulder strap, all for $200.00.

Get a Marlin, they are accurate, reliable and moderately priced. Take a look at the 336 series, they usually go at around $350ish which is a lot cheaper than most Winchesters. http://www.marlinfirearms.com/Firear...ire/308MX.aspx
