The gun Gods were smiling!

While back, bought a couple of tickets for a Wildlife Federation Dinner.
Normally I go to several a year, but this year I couldn't make it.
Had a friend watch the raffles for me, he called last Sunday and told me to contact the gun guy, that I won a gun!

Didn't know what it was and had to go 75 miles to see what it was.
It is a Weatherby .300wsm.

So, now I have to put a scope on it, buy some ammo ($41.99 a box) and most likely a set of reloading dies.
Lesson here is that, "Even a blind chicken gets some corn, every once in a while".

Mounted some scope rings on it, and an old scope, ordered a new one.
Gonna be ordering up the loading dies for it pretty soon, I think I can do a little better than $41.99 a box.

I was supprised to see that the factory loads clock in @ 3010 fps, faster by a tad than the .300 win mag @ 2950 for a 180 gr BST
This is gonna be fun!

LOL,
I know what you mean, it's like the looks you get when your driving out of the woods with a big buck in the back of the truck, and all the other guys are standing next to their truck, freezing their ----- off. You can read their face/mind, and it ain't good! (insert any words that you can think of here).

I guess I can't complain, have done well over the years with the dinners, raffles, etc, but I also have spent major bucks, for a lot of good causes, so I don't feel bad at all.
Still, it's good to win once in a while.

Looking over the manual and checking out the box, I noticed that they (Weatherby) includes a target in the box, proving the claim of 1-1/2" group @ 100 yards. Test guy had Japanese name
Gun made in Japan, based on the Rem 700 action,(scope mounts fit), w/Sako bolt/extractor. (per gun store guy).
Interesting.
P.S. DW went with me to pick it up, and when we were there I was looking at the Barret 50 cal auto loaded, @ $9199 bucks.
DW just grabbed me by the arm and said "Lets go". (sigh)

Have you ever fired the Barrett .50? I have. To quote a movie, "It shoots through schools."

No, and probably won't, some times the expense out weights the "cool".
Lots of other things I woud rather spend my money on, but....................

A military buddy bought one of the Barrett bolt-action rifles back in the early '90s. I offered to buy the ammo if we went shooting - that was a pretty penny. I fired 3 rounds and can say that it was cool but that was enough for me unless I need to take out an armored personnel carrier sometime soon.
