Ever trapped feral wolves?

I have a rather unique situation resulting from my soft heart (and softer head). I allowed (reluctantly) to let a homeless woman keep her pet wolves on my property. They bred and produced several young, who have now gone feral. they have chased the neighbors cattle and attacked my poultry. They need to die. I'm actively hunting them but I think I will have better luck trapping them. I have several 330 conibear traps. Any suggestions on how to set and bait the traps?

2 things you need to do and both involve checking with your Conservation Department. !at you need to know if you are even allowed to set 330 Conibear traps on dry land. Here you are not allowed to use them out of water.
Second check with them to see what can be done about getting rid of the pups and the woman with her wolves. If she turned them loose she is responsible for all damages they do to you or anyone else. Get the monkey off of your back and on to hers where it belongs. They are your best help.

I need to add that 330 Conibear traps are big enough to break a mans arm. The will kill the wolves but could also kill pet dogs, calves, medium deer. 330's are made to kill beaver quickly and that is why they are used under water. Beaver is a large animal. You need all that power to both kill them quickly and to hold them.

chicken in a cage or cat tied by one leg in an open area at least 50 yds wide, semi auto &/or multiple shooters. if any get away, get an old cow or horse lead it out to a small clearing and put it down to act as a bait. then set snares on the trails leading in about 50 yds back from where they open into clearing.

Oh, this is an entirely extralegal endeavor. I would much rather have the DNR POed at me than the neighbors.

She really didn't "turn them loose" as they were born here in an unfenced area (bitch was tied). They just went feral before I even knew they existed.

As far as the law is concerned, "released" is all that matters. It doesn't matter if they were turned out on purpose or escaped confinement.......
As to your problem- NO way would I use a conibear dry land set....Stick with #6 leghold and drag. Personally I would look for a fresh road killed deer and place it within easy comfortable shooting distance with a shotgun/buckshot from the house and sit on it for about three days right at sunset. If you have a large enough tract of land, you can possibly get some relief from the U.S. Department of Ag nuisance animal department. These guys are commonly known as "Federal trappers". They are most often utilized to trap out beavers but they do quite a bit of coyote control here in Oklahoma. They have all sorts of nasties in their tool box including cyanide baits and helicopter mounted shooters with 12 gauge buckshot.......Trust me, they CAN get them.

#6 legholds were designed for bear if they are the #6's that I remember. #4 1/2 Newhouse were designed for wolves and cougars.

I would turn the matter over to the feds. 330 conibears are dog killers on land and could get you into all kinds of trouble.

I would use snares before I would use conibears. Snares set in fences are very effective if you can find the path they are using.

We never had any success with traps on a coyote problem but have gotten rid of tons of them with snares. Most dogs will just sit down and wait for you to let them go if they have ever been tied. I would think snares would work better.
