Skipjack (River Herring)

Anybody ever tried to eat these dang things? I caught something over thirty (lost count) today, most well over a pound. Loads of fun, but what good. Threw all of them back. I've heard that the Indians (excuse me, Native Americans) ate them all the time. Anybody ever tried them?

Ive eaten them but I didnt really like them. The trick is to fry them VERY crisp, and score them deeply so the bones "dissolve " in the grease. They DO make wonderful catfish bait though
