Fishing bait

my mom bought some maggots from our local bait shop labeled as "spikes", not looking to fish with them(at least not right now), but rather feed them to my turtles. what I need to know what exactly are "spikes"? what the they turn into after they pupate?

If you don't keep them refrigerated, they'll eventually turn into the Blue Bottle Fly, Calliphora vomitoria.
