Eagle season

Tis the end of eagle season on the Skagit River. This weekend they're holding their big festival. DD and I drove upriver to see them yesterday, but got a late start and it was a sunny day. Sunny days are pretty and quite welcome, but aren't good for eagle viewing; we saw just one immature:

The river was beautiful, though, don't you think?

Then today, driving out to my sister's house we saw a pair of adults.

One was in my field last year, and seen a few over the trees driving home...Luckily I don't think any nest in our area. Just some field hawks that don't prove to be much of a problem to the birds (muscovies intimidate them I think lol) and a pair of Osprey about 2 miles as the crow flies. They are so amazing. I hope to get some nice pictures up at Hawks' Ridge next year

Eagles around here mostly eat on dead stuff.I consider them just a glorified Buzzard.

Yeah, around here they eat fish in the summer, gut piles in the fall, and roadkill in the winter.

one can always be easily led to a recent hunter moose kill by the group of bald eagles, turkey vultures, and ravens that feed on the remains of what the hunter left while field dressing. A great bonanza in the fall for baldies around then.

Shame on you, Steve! That's spotted owl, not white owl. Don't you know the taste difference? (Wait...maybe that was spotted owl that tasted like chicken...or was that whale, the other white meat I'm thinking of???)
