Smile My boy gets a small doe...

12yo boy got a little doe this morning

Small enough to process at home.

He didn't want his pic taken because its too small I said "Boy does good, brings his momma no stinky tough big bucks."

Called and left message for the Daddy at hunting camp with his buddies...

Attaboy!
For the table,I'll take a young doe over anything else all day long.
Remember the rule....."To the shooter goeth the backstraps".If you do the cookin',maybe he'll share, though.

Tell him this old hunter said every deer is a trophy and he should have his picture taken with it. He will have that satisfaction that comes with providing meat for the family when you eat the deer HE got. He will never forget that deer, nor will any of the family. Congratulations on his first one, and may many more come to follow.

Well he's doing better then me! I had a few does come by my stand this morning but I held off in hopes Big Daddy would soon come along. He never showed, nor did any bucks at all. I didn't want to shoot a doe for fear I might chase the bucks away before I get to see them. But I don't think there was any to be seen.

So congrats to the big deer slayer!

I called my parents to tell them about boy and Pepere said he was watching a monstrous 12 point in the back field as the stream has flooded from heavy rain pushing deer up to field....Pepere likes to wait and shoot one on his birthday...Nov. 10...last year he shot a nice 6point 180 pounds hanging, hubby's was 238 hanging (and tastes yucky).

Not a day goes by that they dont have deer in the back field, it just seems too easy to sit on the deck and pop one unless your an old man

My neighbors & I are aware of a giant buck, but we've agreed to let it live to breed. It's genes are worth more to us than its head on someone's wall.

We discussed this as well....Dad said he would wait until last of season on him(after T-giving)...there is a 4,6 and 8 point that are seen regularly as well.
Finding those sheds in Jan. might be nice though!

I hunt for meat, not trophies. Different strokes for different folks.

Wink

I'm about the meat(taste) too but I can tell you that trophy rack or otherwise it gets eaten....its not wasted.
I'd rather have all doe meat but you have to win a doe tag here so more often than not its a buck....but we've had spikes thru 11pointers and the big ones were all shot on the last few days of the season.
Plus it costs about $800 to have a mount done well and we cant afford it
My husband saw over 68 does and little bucks(no doe permits) before he shot his buck....who had 4 broken tines out of 8...so he was probably fighting one much bigger. Like I said the meat is strong and only suitable for chili and spaghetti type meals and the jerky wasnt too bad.

1 deer only here whether you have a doe tag or not....you take what you can get when you see it-trophy or tall enough spikes....the longer you wait the colder it gets....

On a good note hubby has a doe tag for behind the house, if he doesnt get a buck at camp....so I'm still hoping for MORE doe meat

I wouldn't count on him doing most of the breeding. His genes are already in the pool, he can breed only so many does, and many older bucks breed little or not at all. There is good chance that even a forkhorn or a spike will pass his genes along. What really will upset you and your neighbor is finding him along the road dead.

Good job! She'll be good eating.

DH went out yesterday morning. He saw two does but his tag isn't good for a doe here. Then a black cat with white paws, a bald eagle, a turkey vulture and a rabbit. He had to do some work on one of the town's roads then went back out hunting for a couple of hours before sunset. He saw a cow moose then.
