Tractor hunting

Today I was mowing 30 ft wide food plot strips and deer stood 20 yards away from the tractor. The only time they ran was when my scent got to them, and then they just ran a few yards. Now to figure out how to shoot a bow and steer at the same time. The problem with my old cub is that if I let go of the steering wheel, there is no telling which direction the tractor will instantly go. I knew a guy who would jump shoot ducks from a moving tractor, but a bow? I didn't think about taking my camera with me.

You should check your state wildlife laws. Most states have laws against shooting from a motorized vehicle, maybe a tractor dosn't fall under this. But if your out in the open where someone might see you they might turn you in. Just my 2 cents. Other than that, I did stuff like that before. Oh, but not now. Right.

This is what I would try in the yard without a bow in my hands.Try,the big haevy black ones.around the steering wheel and to something solid on the right side and do the same on the left.Get them real tight so they will hold the steering wheel like you would with your hands. And then let go of the wheel just a little bit to see if it takes off.IF it does grab your bow and shoot a deer.LOL
It is worth a try anyway.

I would assume that as long as you don't shut off the engine and jump off the tractor that the deer would most likely just stand there long enough for you to use both hands and make good aim. A lot of deer aren't spooked by farm machinery and chainsaws, or farmers just milling around there place staying busy.

I have noticed the squirrels around my place aren't scared of vehicles, either, even though they are extremely skittish if a human comes by. I have had the same thoughts that you are having...

Have ya tried putting the tractor into Neutral? Put yer bow/arrows into a gunny sack and attach the sack to the rear of the seat.

Watch out fer Bambi-lovers...........LOL!

Tractors generally do fall into the category of motorized vehicles under the game laws. Definitely check before you start shooting.

or I could apply landowners rights, but somehow killing a deer in the field off a tractor just somehow doesn't seem right. Unless I am out of venision

Can't do that here in Wisconsin no matter if you own the land or not. Tractor is a moving vehicle and you can't have an uncased gun in or on it no matter if the vehicle is moving or stopped. That never stopped us 50 years ago when we always had a battered old .22 single-shot on the John Deere. Rabbits and pheasants barely moved out of the way when picking corn or disking corn stubble. Pop the clutch, grab the rifle, and bag the game!
