Whelp! Here's the update:
We had a ton of fun. No deer, but we had lots of fun camping. We got to the campground on Friday evening and spent most of the evening setting up camp. The next morning my daughter and I got up at 5 o'clock a.m. and freezing cold. I don't think it was really that cold but the wind was blowing real good which made it seem to blow right through you. Immediately I realized the wind was almost straight out of the east. Which is a bad sign!
We got to our hunt site and walked into the woods and set while waiting for the sun to rise. We set for about 3 hours and no deer came around at all. I figured with all the wind the deer were probably gonna stay put and not move. So we decided to see if we could walk and jump some up. We would walk a little then sit and call and do a little rattlin. Then we would walk a little futher and do the callin and rattlin all over again. Nothing! So we decided to head back to the jeep and grab a little bit to eat. By the time we got back to the jeep the sun was really heating things up. My daughter was getting miserable in the heat. While at the jeep we had a small doe run right in front of us while we were sitting inside eating. It was the only deer we saw. After that my daughter was miserable and had lost interest in hunting and wanted to go back to camp. I agreed and thought we would just come back in the morning and try another area I'm familiar with. Come next morning at 5 a.m. my daughter cried to not go hunting today. Not wanting to force it on her, I decided we will just stay at camp and have fun.
So what did we do at camp? Mostly eat and snack. But we got to watch about 200 geese come in for a landing right nearby us and take off for a fly by, which we all ran for cover! We treasure hunted. Since we camped out next to a lake we went on a long walk on the shore line and collected treasures. Bird feathers, gourds, tomatillo's, rocks, drift wood. Found two native chest nut trees that was loaded with seed pods. We collected a half bag full of the seed pods, I hope to get some trees growing from them to transplant in my back yard. Also, my middle daughter brought home two plastic bag full of huge pine cones. She's gonna make christmas decorations and bird feeders out of them.
And we had family come down and visit us in which they all brought food for a big pigout! So we done a lot of visiting and loafing. It was cold at nights, especially with the wind blowing everynight and it would get very warm in middle of the daytime. Dress for winter at nights and switch to shorts and sleevles shirts in the day.
Although we didn't come home with a deer, it was still a very successful outing. I hope to do it again, soon.
