what power scope?

I have a .270 rifle I'm going to try out some test target shots with a new scope to sight it in basically for accuracy, and maybe also with the open sights.
The scope is 4 to 9x and most shots I would have for deer probably in the 100 to 250 yd. range. Is the lowest power setting (4x) the best to keep it at?
My 30/30 had a bit different scope but I don't remember zooming it up much beyond 6 power.

I'm thinking it best to keep the setting at 4x for field use, and if occasion presents for longer shots, and time allows to set it higher, than I guess that makes sense??

That's what I do, keep it on a lower power unless I need a higher one for a long shot. You want to sight it in on the highest power, though.
