Did your first market garden scare you

Its not the work that scaring me even know it will be a big garden its what to plant. Its almost a 2 acre field. I know there going to be alot of work to do but there is also 5 of us working it.

but just having enough items to sale throught the season and what items to plant is making me nervous.

so far let me give you a list.

Eggplant, Okra, Big beef tomatos, Red Cherry and yellow pear tomatos, Yellow, green, sunburst squash, zuchinie, Cantalope, 3 types of watermelons, Jalepono peppers, Red, yellow, green bell peppers and kentucky pole beans.

Will also have eggs for sale 35 dozen a week.

anything else you think I should plant ? I was thinking of a section for herbs also.

If this does well we're thinking of expanding it next year and possible doing a winter garden.

Two acres is a breeze for five people. You'll have a great time!

How about greens, eggplant, cabbage, carrots, corn, broccoli, cauliflower, cucumbers? I have no idea how these sell in your area so please keep that in mind.

Pickling cucumbers are a big hit. How big are your rows of veggies going to be? I plant about 2 acres but the rows are 150 ft long. Another great seller is oregonII snow peas.
I am not scared, I AM EXCITED. I just love planting and picking and selling produce. I can't wait for the snow to melt so I can get started

I remember when I was selling baked goods at the farmers market. I was scared EVERY time I headed out with a load!

I don't know why, I just was! Scared headed out, and excited or frustrated headed back.

Not everything will go/grow right but the successes will make up for the failures just keep trying sounds like your on the right track. With experience you will have a better handle on what sells well in your area and know better what to plant next year.

That is so true! Last year was our first full season on our new homestead and at the local farmers market. We had some great 'hits' with items no one one else was offering (very small market). And we came up with a nice list of requested items to add to our selections this year.

I am a bit nervous too.

My plan is to plant a flower garden. I have no idea how big to make it. I have some concerns about being able to keep it up, and making it worthwhile.

The garden will be at my parents, five miles away. I have some health concerns that keep me from working really hard for long periods. Mosquitos are an issue, so working at night are out of the question. I am also concerned about water, and irrigation is not an option.

So, yes, I am concerned.

Mosquitos are an issue here too...BUT the town I live in was given the native name for Mosquito

I'm nervous to see what the year brings, this is our first time... The local grocery store also said they would buy from us as well... going to be busy times... nothing ventured, nothing gained.
