Need a lazy walkway

Can I make a walkway without worrying about leveling? I'd like to put a path through the flower garden. There is a slight slope, but not really up and down, just about 100 feet of a 2 or 3 pitch drop. Will it wash out?

Wink

I made one through my perennial garden using various size farm rocks. I sure didn't worry about leveling, but just dug out a bit of soil to slightly embed each rock, then fit them together like a mosaic. Looked wonderful, kept my feet from getting muddy, and was totally free.
