Moving black berries

I have lots of blackberry canes in very in hospitable places, how (and when) can I move these things into a more controlable/useable location?

yeah, for the midwest i read Jan. - feb. (you can mow down in the fall before planning to move them) then i don't think you really expect a crop on the 1st year canes after moving
