Wilting spinach

Why is my spinach suddenly wilting and shriveling? It was looking very good even though we hadn't had rain in several weeks. Finally the rain came and everything in the garden jumped up, but today our spinach looked bad. Any ideas? Bob

Some are supposed to be curly and wavy as opposed to the flat leaf. If it's shriveling that doesn't sound good unless it's the style of the leaf.

Wilting doesn't sound good. My book says that "mature plants in cool moist weather often are destroyed by mildew." Maybe that was it if you got a wet and cool spell for a bit. Says the leaves need to stay dry.

Diseases are causing leaves to yellow not wilt, so that's not it.

Other than that maybe a bug? Book doesn't mention any underground ones usually they go for those juicy leaves. But maybe something did. Mole maybe?

To me it just sounds like it needs more water, wilting to me always means water. Sorry, no help but I tried!
