new goji berries from box store question.

Hey everyone I bought two Goji berry plants today from a local hardware store, They are decent size plants about 10 inches tall and 12 inches around. Looks like they started leafing out about a week ago, not full leaved but coming along.
They are in pretty large pots and they have several dried berries hanging from the plants" I guess these were probably dug up from a field somewhere"

Anyways my real question is there is a grass matt placed on top of the soil the same size as the pot I lifted this and found many new young shoots coming up with pale green foliage, Can I cut these off and root them?

I believe the mat was placed on top of the soil to stop this from happening, it looks like goji berries replicate very well from there roots.

My only concern is I don't want to harm the already established plant.

let us know what you do and the results. I just got a goji this spring. don't know much about them. I just hope we like the taste of the berry! maybe the chickens will if we don't... lol.
