When to start??

We are new to the size of garden we will be putting in this year. We caught a good time and already have it worked, which for us I think is early compared to past years. The news says that the ground temp is 55 or so. When would be the earliest to put seeds in ground? Not looking to put plants in since they are still calling for cold nights next week but wondering about beans, cucumbers, squash, pumpkins, and really excited to try potatoes this year. Thanks for any advise!

Too early for the 4 vegetable seeds which you mentioned. Better to have the soil temp in the mid-60s for them. Your potatoes can go in any time now.

Now you can plant; onions, turnips, cabbage, kale, cauliflower, broccoli, radish, lettuce, brussels sprouts, beets, might be a few others I've forgot.
I did forget about potatoes, strawberry, and asparagus.

Anything else is a warm weather crop and you should wait until after your last average frost date before planting.
