The start of my garden.

I am wanting to do berries and possibly a few fruit trees. I know it takes a few to several years to actually produce fruitso I wantt to get started. But is it too late to go ahead plant this year?

Fall or early spring is usually the "best" time to plant trees and bushes, but if you can find the kinds you are interested in that are in pots/containers at nurseries, they can be planted any time of year.

You can also get runners from friends or neighbors that are growing strawberry plants... same for rooted tips of blackberries or black raspberries and root divisions of red/yellow raspberries.

I would just make sure you have the ability to provide consistent water for them to let them get settled.

The place I'm planting is on the side of a creek. High enough where it wont flood but keeps the water table high at the same time

i planted some blueberries and apple the first of the month. blue berries had berries when i bought so i waited till they ripened. i water about every 3 days. i stuck a short section of 3" pipe in ground next to plants and fill it w/water. they havent wilted yet with no rain. till roots get estabilished they will need to be watered regardless of water table.
