Strawberries

I'm a good gardener.....really. I can grow anything. Well, anything except strawberries. Not sure why but they hate me. I bought a bunch of Tristar berries two years ago. I was nice to them, fed them, mulched them, talked to them, protected them in the winter. No berries. Last year, I watered them, didn't talk to them, and basically ignored them. No berries. In late April, I informed these sorry weeds that if they didn't produce fruit this year, they were going in the compost pile. I'm guessing the little darlings believed me. A whole pint!

I usually get a good yield on strawberries but I was out today and its just been just to wet. They are rotting as fast as they ripen. Mine don't look as good as yours

tristars should try and produce their first season if crowns are planted in the spring...

Did the leaves look healthy? what size were the plants when you put them in? Did they produce runners?

I have threatened an asian pear more than once but never thought to try that with strawberries.

From my personal experience (and playing hours of SimFarm back in the day.. lol) Strawberries NEED to get a touch of frost to produce. That's what I read, and it seemed to work.

I noticed you covered them in winter.. so.. I dunno. Just thought I'd pass this along.

Well now, it looks like you got some. I killed a couple of packages leaving them in the barn waiting for perfect conditions. I guess you have to put them in the ground or something. This year, I finally achieved six--berries that is.
