Sante Shallots?

I'm not sure I planted mine right! Some were obviously divided, and I seperated them OK, and planted--but some were extremely large bulbs, and didnt look to have seperation spots. I wasnt supposed to have peeled them down like a onion before I planted, was I? Some were really big bulbs...

You planted them right, they just naturally grow that way. With most true shallots, one plants a large set to produce a lot of small sets. One then plants a small set to get a large bulb. That's one of the prime reasons why they are so much more expensive than onions since a certain percentage of the harvest can not be marketed for culinary purposes.
