water hose filters

I have a lot of iron in my well water. I only use the well water for the garden as we have city water for the house. My plants' leaves and fruits are coated in iron. This doesn't all wash off either. It doesn't seem to be great for the plants' leaves either.

With the research I've done, it seems that drip systems will clog because of the iron. I would like to use a drip system eventually. Currently I use a standard pivoting spray head simply because they take a long time to clog and only cost a few bucks to replace.

So, I'm considering a hose water filter. The ones for garden hoses are around $80-100. The ones for RVs are around $20. Of course, I want to spend as little as possible, but I am concerned that the RV hose would diminish the flow.

Has anyone used a hose filter for the garden? I've read a lot of reviews, but no one really addresses water pressure. I appreciate any tips or advice you have.

Thanks
Kate

That sounds like some serious iron. I don't have that problem, but I use 3/4 black poly irrigation hose with these little screw in emitters that I got at Lowes. Even if the emitters plugged up you could just replace them pretty cheaply. I know the poly won't plug up.
