I live in the Midwest (US) and have never grown carrots before....
I want to try them this year. Any suggestions?

I have a Old Farmers Almanac it says for your area you can plant them 3/9 -3/21

I use tp [cut the roll across to make two rolls] use one to glue the seeds [ use the childs washable glue stick goes on purple and dries clear]it works best for me
then you can plant them a lot easier good luck

It sounds like you are making your own seed tape, but I am not quite clear on your directions. I could use a method like that for a number of different seeds.
Could you give me further directions? Heh, sort of a "Homemade Seedtapes for Dummies" version.

seed tapes

like I said I cut the toilet paper roll in half crossways then I have two more narrow rolls I take one of those and stand somewhere [I use my kitchen counter] that I know how long it is for measuring purposes> Then I roll the paper out for 2 or 3 feet, go down the middle with the glue stick, I have my seed in a small bowl and use twizzers to put the seeds on the glue when you are don with that part you fold it in half and press down so it will stick. you have to work a little quickly so the glue does not dry on you. Then you keep repeating this process until you have however long you need for your row
You don't have to plant very deep keep watered {I water them 2 times a day}
the paper disolves as your lants grow

we just got through planting about 75 feet of carrots this way and took hardely no time at all and you could see where you put it as you go
If I can help you further just ask and I will try to help

I dig a trench where I am going to plant them. Fill the trench with potting soil and water it well. Then plant my carrots very thinly, pressing them into the soil rather than buryign them. Next, cover the row with a board. In 10 days, I look to see if they are up. If not, I replace the board. If they are, I leave the board off. The potting soil helps them get a head start on the weeds so it's easier to thin them in the row.

For a small amount of row, pelleted seed is wonderful.

Else plant thinly. Or regret it.

I do the board thing too.
