Corn with termites inside stalk/root

I went outside today and realized I had lost 3 large, healthy green corn stalks. When I looked closely at the base there was a hole drilled in the bottom and inside the base of the stalk I found a termite. My original thought was cutworms but there were none present in any of the 3, all I could find was a termite and a couple ants. Any ideas on discouraging the pests eating my corn, the stalks are already at least 3 feet tall and beautiful! Makes me wanna cry!
