Bag gardens

I tried something similiar to this with a plastic feed bag this year. I only planted the top...they use the entire bag. Interesting concept. Here is a short (4 min) video:

http://www.green-trust.org/wordpress...-a-bag-garden/

Thinking of using a bag system next year for potatoes by partially filling the bag with soil & compost, planting potatoes, then adding soil & compost as the potatoes grow. Similiar to stacking tires but without the chance that a toxin from the rubber (some say it will, some say it won't, figure I'll err on the safe side) will get into the food.

I didn't watch the video (slow dial up) but just a note about the bags. The string that they use to sew the end closed will rot way before the bag will. Shouldn't be a problem unless you try to move it and then the dirt could fall out. Maybe reinforce with poly or nylon string?

Yep, they are. Never thought of that. Guess I'd better try this where a spill would be easy to clean up. Thanks!

Cool! I was actually going to try something similar but with a PVC pipe down the middle, the stones are a great idea and cheaper.
