Well............ did the Amanac forecast the days and days of 103 degrees, too? Makes me glad I live in Michigan....until January rolls around.

Plant beans, water well, mulch with straw? Then pray for snow.

You're up around DFW? What kind of beans, bush or pole beans? What does your ag extension agent say? Is the almanac information valid for your area?

I know here, if I went by the almanac, I'd never be able to grow anything because often the zones in the almanac "south, southeast" etc are so vague and cover more than one USDA zone. I can't plant here what someone up where you are, or someone in southern Tennessee or upper Georgia, is planting at the same time.

Our county has planting dates specific to the county, and it's been the biggest help I have ever found in the 30+ years I"ve been gardening, other than personal experience, I mean!

Oh, I just use the Almanac as a loose guide.... No, it did not forcast the 103's exactly. It's typical here. ..I was just whining.. I'd like to get my fall garden started, as soon as I can. The heat and Grasshopper's are a genuine whipping this year... I hope fall is better.
You are very correct JulieAnn.... Even with ton's of experience, Mother Nature will almost always win.

If it's this hot, you might want to wait. Soil temps may be outside the range for good germination.

105 today, 106 for tomorrow, etc., etc. I'll be waiting to plant, no doubt!
It is CRAZY hot here with no relief in sight.

Right there with you Texasdirtdigger! I've been trying to get the energy to simply mow my yard for the past 3 days and every time I walk outside I turn right back around and come in. I guess I'll have to get up at 6:00 am on Saturday to do it (of course this will not make the neighbors too happy!).

Stay cool my Texas friend!
