beaver ?

I need to protect an oak tree from a beaver. Best idea I have come up with is hardware cloth around the trunk.

Anyone have better options?

Thanks.

3' tall Chicken wire wrapped loosely around the tree has worked for me. Don't know which would be cheaper....
