tiller / cultivator

Okay, what is the difference? I am looking at the mantis tillers. Somthing I can handle myself when I want to turn over the soil. Then I ran across a gas powered cultivator and I am wondering is there a big difference?
Accepting all opinions.
Thanks,
Melissa

Power, and time. A powered cultivator is fine for tiny gardens and weeding. A tiller is much faster and does a better job on large areas. Our garden is clay and rocks. I have a cultivator that attaches to the weed eater and it'll paw at the surface weeds and that is about it. The Roto-hoe will go in and dig about six inches down, loosening the soil and killing weeds, with only an occasional complaint about the rocks.

You till to prepare soil for a crop. After the crop is up you cultivate it to aerate the soil to add oxygen to the root zone, to kill weeds, and to open crusted soil so that it readily receives water.

What I'm getting at is that I think that a tiller would be built heavier than a cultivator when speaking of powered units as you are. A cultivator might be smaller and more maneuverable and the physical weight less than a tiller.

Hey, you can handle this one if you leave it hooked up.
