mutant earthworms

I was out piddling in the rain in the garden this morning. I saw a huge earth worm that looked as if it had been smashed in the middle. Ewwwwww! I passed by it quickly. Then I found another and another. I looked closer.....no, they weren't smashed - just double thickness in the middle. I must have run into 15 of them. I started to wonder about my garden site. Had it been a toxic chemical dump or something? I thought it had been a horse pasture. It was really creepy!

Then, I pulled a little weed next to one of the mutants.....
it divided into two worms and each slid into its own hole!!!!

IT WAS AN EARTH WORM MATING PARTY! RIGHT IN MY GARDEN!!!
