Need help picking out an

ornamental tree of some sort that will do well in zone 4. I want to put it in one end of a flower bed that is in the middle of my front yard. I would like it to flower but not have any fruit & also not get extremely tall or overbearing.
It is also very windy here & we have cold winters & usually quite a bit of snow.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have a few Eastern Redbud's right now & it's pretty iffi as to wether they will come back from year to year. I only see 2 out of 6 getting any leaf at all right now.
It is very frustrating when you plant things & they don't make it back.

hrm. What about a flowering crabapple? I know it has some fruit, but you don't need to pick it or anything, and the fruit looks pretty just hanging there in the winter.
Birches are also pretty, or a cold hardy holly.
