Unhappy It Wont Stop Raining!!!

Hi All.
It Will Not Stop Raining. I cant plow up my garden and if i plant anything it's gonna die, drown or float away. My plants are sitting in my living room looking absolutely horrid. I need ideas on how to nurse my poor plants through till the rain quits. if it ever does. I have tried Miracle grow but thats as far as iv gotten. I put my tomatoes into a rubbermade tote full of dirt out of desperation. lol. P.S. its been raining for 2 weeks or more. iv lost count.

I think iv lost my mind. I know rain is good and all but this is over kill.

Thank you everyone!!
(oh and MOM dont bother to replpy since your garden is drowned out to lol)

I was just thinking the same thing. I need to put the garden in, have hay to cut, the yard grass is tall enough to bale, trees to cut down, weedeating to do, mailbox to reset, goats to shear, and the list goes on and on, but it won't stop raining. And when we do have a non-rain day, I'm scheduled to go in to work.

Do you have a florescent light you can put your plants under? It doesn't have to be a grow light and it might help a little.

I feel your pain! My tomato plants are drowning too. Here I sit, watching it rain again. It looks like we might dry out a bit after this one moves through.

It was the same way here although the rain has slowed down considerably. That one week where we had nearly 10 inches just about did in my gumption for gardening. The plants that made it are doing really well, but there aren't many of those. I need to replant and I've borderline lost my will to do it. That's even more depressing than having to replant.

Hi Drycreek
Know exactly what you mean. Here in SE Ohio, same thing. It dries for a day or 2, and then heavy to medium rain.

We've been holding all the plant starts, and they are beginning to suffer. Today (Sunday) it is supposed to clear up, boy, I hope so.

Same here in southwestern Indiana. We got a new 60" tiller that hasn't got a bit of dirt on it yet. The garden is just there waiting. I put some onion sets and lettuce in my herb bed that is raised a bit and right out my back door.

We mudded in 100 strawberries early last month. I think I have lost about 10% of them.

Graduation is this next weekend. No gardening then because we will have an open house to prep for. People may have to wear hip waders to get in.

I second the folks who have recommended extra lights. That, more than anything else, will be the limiting factor for the plants in your livingroom. Don't feed them too much while they are not actively growing, as they won't need it.

If you can get them outside at all it will be good for them -- even if you have to rig a tarp or better yet, a clear piece of plastic to keep the rain off of them. As you've noticed, they just don't do well in the house.

In MS and it's been raining EVERY day for a week. I already have my garden planted, and they are looking really good, even the grass/weeds. LOL

I have most the stuff on mounds, thank god. I just can't go out there and weed because it's too wet.

Hey now!!!

Just because I'm your "MOM" doesn't mean I can't commisserate with you! (grin). You were at my house today and saw your dad till the garden for the 4th or 5th time this year because the weeds have really loved all the rain. Don't let her fool you guys-- she planted EVERYTHING she had yesterday evening and then this morning the radio dude said we might have a freeze tonight!!! What luck!

I'm off to read my planting dates in the almanac before I go out and plant as many things as I can. Must have lots of green beans this year to can and can and can. The only thing I have planted right now is cabbage and its doing great!

Been raining here in W Il, too. There is a pond in the middle of the garden, with a happy frog croaking away out there.

DryCreekFarm,
You're not alone,it has rained almost 6'' here in NW Georgia in 17 days. The good thing is it didn't rain yesterday or today and I was able to get some things transplanted that needed it badly. Everyone here has some good ideas, you didn't say if your plants were out growing their containers or not. If your plants are root bound the best thing you can do is get them into something bigger, fast as possible and it will help them 100%. Your tomatoes, don't be afraid to bury them deep up on their stalk or trunk which ever you want to call it because they will grow new roots were they're covered with dirt. Also I don't know if you believe in planting by the signs (Almanac) but I do and have been doing it since a kid because I know it works. My neighbor that lives up the road from me wanted to get his onion sets in the ground before going on a weeks vacation with his wife, well I thought he was planting them at a bad time, Yesterday he showed me one he pulled and it was rotting around the outside of the onion. Not from water,he lives on high ground compared to me. Hang in there.
