The link is to a bamboo water foutain that makes a slow tapping sound that Chinese claim scares deer away, but is relaxing tp people. The Texas part would be in refernce to jack pumps that make a similar rythim (sp?) sound.

Yes, deer, but no close neighbors. For deer? We use an electric fence around our vegetable garden, of 2,500 sq feet. For all predators, who might go after our Orchard chickens & bunnies? A 7 foot high fence, an extremely sweet Lab/Chesapeake who turns into FANG when anything dares to go after our Critters, and also an Electric Mesh Fence around our Chicken Yard that houses the rest of the chickens. To clear up any confusion, we have an Orchard with rabbit hutches and one chicken hutch. There are 4 "Peeps" (aka Cuckoo Maran 8 wk old Chicks) in one side of the Chicken Hutch, and 4 Speckled Sussex w/their Buff Orpington Rooster. We had to split the flock temporarily, until there were more hens. The Black Osterlope is regal, beautiful, and far tougher than the Buff Orpington Rooster. We can only see one neighboring home through the trees on one side of our property. Our home is on a cleared section surrounded by tall trees. To avoid close neighbors? Don't have any! OR if they are convinced you have a screw loose, they won't come near you. My son lives in Seattle and this works for him- in character, he is hysterically funny, only because I know what a good actor he is. Other people are disturbed.

Oh my goodness! A tapping sound to scare deer? Not white tail, I can step out of my porch and have them stand their and look at me just 10 feet away like "hey lady your pear tree was just sitting here..." I've seen them eat grass just a few yards from my Anatolian Shepherd when he's kenneled and barking like crazy. If he's out they won't come in the pasture, if he's kenneled they don't seem to mind at all. I can't imagine a tapping sound scaring them away, but would be curious to hear if it has worked for others.

I was thinking those motion sensing sprinklers looked like a good option, but haven't heard any one use them successfully either.
