Best time for planting asparagus?

My hubby collected some wild asparagus seeds last year and wants me to plant them. When is the best time to plant asparagus seeds and will they actually grow?

I have a thousand plants growing in my greenhouse. Started 8 weeks ago from Millenium asparagus seed purchased at Stokes.

I had a very high germination rate with this seed and would expect the wild seed to work as well.

I like transplants for mid may planting but direct seeding also works in spring.

i've been trying to encourage volunteers that sprout in my bed, but they are very delicate and i have trouble when weeding the bed. i think starting them indoors would be a good idea.
